Compassionate and fun

Josie Fisher

Josie Fisher, R.N., provides bedside care and staff management support in the oncology unit at University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital.

Fisher is passionate about helping kids and families affected by cancer have the best experience possible. To her, this means balancing the hard moments with plenty of light-hearted ones. “I can’t change the fact that kids develop cancer,” she says. “But I can still do my best to help the family.”

Fisher was nominated for her attentive and compassionate, yet playful, approach to helping patients. Her nominator writes:

“Josie carries this contagious energy. Even when you are feeling blue, she makes you smile. The voice you can hear all the way down the hall, the prankster to keep everyone on their toes. She was ‘mom’ when mom couldn’t be at the hospital, the cheerleader to celebrate the small victories, and the nurse to pick up the broken pieces when things didn’t go as planned.”
