2018–2019 Masonic Professional Development Scholars
Taylor Argo, M.D., used her Masonic Professional Development Scholarship to attend the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine conference in Washington, D.C., where she presented a workshop on multicultural perspectives and adolescent obesity. She plans to pursue a career in adolescent medicine.
Erin Balay, M.D., used her Masonic Professional Development Scholarship to attend the national American Academy of Pediatrics meetings in Orlando, Florida, where she presented a quality improvement project that she worked on with members of the U’s pediatric emergency medicine faculty.
Christopher Brooks, M.D., used his Masonic Professional Development Scholarship to attend a national allergy and immunology conference where he presented his research on food allergy treatment options. He plans to pursue a career in pediatric allergy and immunology.
Robert Galvin, M.D., used his Masonic Professional Development Scholarship to attend the American Society of Hematology conference in San Diego, California, where he presented his research on bone marrow transplantation. He plans to pursue a career in pediatric hematology and oncology.
Melissa Hardy, M.D., used her Masonic Professional Development Scholarship to enroll in coursework that will help her to achieve the goal of becoming a certified lactation consultant.
Faith Myers, M.D., used her Masonic Professional Development Scholarship to attend the national American Academy of Pediatrics meetings in Orlando, Florida. She presented research that she completed with members of the U’s pediatric cardiology faculty.
Trisha Paul, M.D., used her Masonic Professional Development Scholarship to attend the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities meeting in Anaheim, California. She has an interest in narrative writing and bioethics, and helped teach a workshop on the impact that narrative writing can have on the practice of medicine.
Sharmila Raghunandan, M.D., used her Masonic Professional Development Scholarship to attend the International Society for Pediatric Oncology meeting in Cairo, Egypt. There, she was able to present some of her research and to connect with pediatric specialists from across the globe.
Kelly Smucker, M.D., used her Masonic Professional Development Scholarship to enroll in coursework that will help her to achieve the goal of becoming a certified lactation consultant.
Nathan Wegmann, M.D., used his Masonic Professional Development Scholarship to attend the International Society for Pediatric Oncology meeting in Cairo, Egypt, where he connected with pediatric specialists from around the world. He plans to pursue a career in pediatric global health.
Aaron Westreich, M.D., used his Masonic Professional Development Scholarship to attend a national allergy and immunology conference where he presented his research on early peanut introduction in children. He plans to pursue a career in pediatric allergy and immunology.
Andrew Wu, M.D., used his Masonic Professional Development Scholarship to attend a global health conference. He will be serving as the U’s chief resident of pediatric global health and plans to pursue a career in this field.
